Trip Planner: South Pacific / Australia / Tasmania / Greater Hobart / Hobart / Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
Established almost two centuries ago, Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens overlooks the Derwent River and the Tasman Bridge. These gardens hold historic plant collections and a large number of significant native and exotic trees and flowers, many dating back to the 19th century. At this location, you can visit the world's only Sub Antarctic Plant House, where plants from the islands located in high southern latitudes are displayed in climatically-controlled habitats mirroring the natural conditions of their native environments. Take a short walk from the city center to see the site's historic convict-built walls, or picnic on the grass. Make sure to stop by the visitor center, which houses a small restaurant, souvenir shop, and a gallery with regularly changing displays. Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens reviews
We visited these gardens on a beautiful winter’s day and even though we spent a few hours there, we didn’t see it all. So many different varieties of trees, plants and flowers. I loved the Japanese... more »
Walked from my accommodation to Botancial Garden. The gardens are beautiful and have different areas. I loved the Japanese Gardens best. more »
Lovely grounds. Easy to get to and easy to navigate around, although some of the signposts need to be nailed down better, as the directions weren't always accurate. The restaurants looked nice and the prices were okay for what you get, you're paying for the experience so keep that in mind (hint, it's not cheap). The grounds were kept in immaculate condition and the accessibility of it for people with disabilities and large tour groups was present and very well managed. No real gripes, it just didn't blow me away.
If you're one of those who like to walk with nature, then this is the place for you. You can't say no to the beautiful flowers and the peace the place gives you. The place feels and smells fresh. There really isn't anything you can complain about the place. It's really beautiful there and you shouldn't miss it. PS: Don't forget to bring water with you.
